The Berlin-based art collective uses adhesive tape as an artistic material. Come November, the living room of the Liebling House will transform into an urban canvas where they can go wild in front of a live audience
Six artists who met six years ago in Berlin decided to found TAPE THAT. It wasn’t long before the members of the collective started using adhesive tape to cover and decorate abandoned buildings, underground clubs, exhibition halls and galleries. “We are inspired by the possibility of creating something new out of an everyday object,” say the members of the collective, explaining that what drives them “is the unlimited creativity.”
"We want to break the rules of what most people think can be done with a conventional adhesive tape," says TAPE THAT, who in recent years has been involved in projects in Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Luxembourg, and Bulgaria. In November, they will visit Israel, where they will teach a course at Dar al-Kalima University College of Arts & Culture, host a workshop for art students at the Yabous Cultural Center, and perform at the Liebling House in Tel Aviv as part of the Open for Renovation events held at the end of the month.
“We put a strong emphasis on cooperation in every project we are involved in. Not only as a collective but also with the organizations we work with, with other artists, art lovers, and young artists. This is probably the most rewarding aspect of our work, and we are very excited about it.”
