100 Years of Bauhaus

Tours of the White City of Tel Aviv

Take part in the Bauhaus Centennial celebrations and discover the unique historical and contemporary architecture of Tel Aviv-Yafo, inspired by the Bauhaus School. Join us for tours throughout the city, where you will get an opportunity to explore the architecture of different neighborhoods, learn the stories behind the facades, and experience the culture of the White City and the urban DNA of Tel Aviv.

Three tours around the following  focal points:

The Historic Heart

Bialik Square: A Taste of Modernism, a Touch of History

Bialik square is the historic heart of Tel Aviv, named after national poet Hayim Nahman Bialik, who built his home here. The square - surrounded by architectural gems designed during the 1920s and 1940s by leading architects - is a living example of some of the finest local architecture. The tour will walk you through this unique heritage site, lined with historically, culturally, and municipally renowned buildings, beginning at the Liebling House: A multidisciplinary project dedicated to the White City of Tel Aviv, scheduled to open in September 2019 as the White City Center.

The Vibrant Boulevard

Rothschild Boulevard and its Surroundings

The vibrant Rothschild Boulevard is the city's main artery, leading up to its cultural heart at Habima square. The Boulevard played a key role in the urban development of Tel Aviv, featuring sites and buildings where major historical events have taken place, including the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel. Rothschild Boulevard is one of the first four streets of Tel Aviv, paved over dunes in the neighborhood of Ahuzat Bayit. Today, the Boulevard is home to Israel's startup scene, where listed buildings adjoin skyscrapers and historical conservation is the backdrop of the city's continuous development. In our tour along the Boulevard, we will examine the chronologic evolution of architecture in Tel Aviv - Eclecticism, International Style, and Brutalism - as it tells the story of its geographical, social, and cultural formation.

The Fringe

Florentine: The Alternative to the UNESCO World Heritage Site

Edge of the UNESCO declaration and the burgeoning southern neighborhood of Florentin has been revived in the late 1990s when young creatives discovered its rough charm and affordable rents. The tour along this unique district of Tel Aviv reveals its characteristic diversity, supporting an architectural, commercial, and social coexistence of tradition and contemporary urban life: Eclectic, Art Deco, and International Style buildings; a persistent spatial division of streets according to distinct trades (spices, toys, wholesale garments, etc.); and lively historical markets operating next to trendy restaurants and bars.
